In this interactive workshop, we will learn all about forced rhubarb! Participants will explore how this unique vegetable grows in the dark at Lennox Farm during the long, cold winter months. The history, techniques, and benefits of forcing rhubarb to produce its tender, bright pink and ruby-red stalks will be explained. The workshop will move into the kitchen as participants learn different methods of preparing this specialized and versatile vegetable. The rhubarb workshop involves a combination of instruction, hands-on activities, and taste testing in the farm kitchen. Each participant will go home with freshly harvested rhubarb, rhubarb baking, and delicious recipes to try. You won’t want to miss this seasonal experience!
The workshop will run from 1 – 3 pm on Saturday, April 5 and 12, and Saturday, May 3. The cost is $50/per person (plus HST). There is a limited number of spots available so please register in advance. Participants are encouraged to bring a pair of boots for the muddy rhubarb root house and clean shoes for the farm kitchen! **Cancellations made within 7 days of the workshop will be eligible for a full refund.
